Eutanasia en Canadá: una advertencia

Somos médicos canadienses que estamos consternados y preocupados por el impacto –en los pacientes, en los médicos, en la práctica médica– de la implementación universal, en nuestro país, de la eutanasia definida como la "atención" médica a la que todos los ciudadanos tienen derecho (sujeto a las satisfacción de criterios de calificación ambiguos y arbitrarios). Muchos de nosotros sentimos tan fuertemente la dificultad de ejercer bajo restricciones recientemente prescritas que podemos vernos obligados, por razones de integridad personal y conciencia profesional, a emigrar o abandonar la práctica por completo. Todos nosotros estamos profundamente preocupados por el futuro de la medicina en Canadá. Creemos que esta transformación no sólo será perjudicial para la seguridad del paciente, sino también para la percepción tan importante del público (y de los propios médicos) de que somos verdaderamente una profesión dedicada únicamente a la curación. Por lo tanto, nos alarman los intentos de convencer a la Asociación Médica Mundial (AMM) de que cambie sus políticas contra la participación de los médicos en la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido. . .
